    • Welcome

Since 1833 when Fr. Berney first arrived and established St. Patrick’s Parish in Burin, Catholics have strived to build up the Church on the Burin Peninsula. Fr. Berney ministered in this area for most of his life, establishing missions on the Burin Peninsula and the South Coast. He was instrumental in raising the level of education of young people establishing schools throughout the region. In 1909 Sacred Heart Parish was established to serve the needs of Catholics in the Marystown Area.

Today St. Patrick’s and Sacred Heart with the mission of St. Joan of Arc have come together to serve the needs of Catholics residing in the central area of the Burin Peninsula, located on the South Coast of the island of Newfoundland.

Our mission statement describes us as a people who have dedicated “ourselves to the guidance of the Holy Spirit”; we are a welcoming faith community, nourished by prayer, word and sacrament. We are encouraged to share our time and talent for the proclamation of the Gospel and the building up our community. The gifts and talents that we have received from God are meant to be shared generously with each other and to be used for the building up of God’s Kingdom.

While visiting this beautiful part of the Province we invite you to join us at one of our daily liturgies. If you reside in our area we invite you to discover the many ways you can get involved in the parish through stewardship of your time and talent.

Enjoy your journey of our webpage and kindly pray for the leadership of our parish and the faithful laity and religious who serve it.

May God bless you and your loved ones.

      Fr. Steve Courtney
      Parish Priest

      Teresa of Avila (1515–1582)

      Christ Has No Body

Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
      Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
      compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.
